چکیده
Light scattering in participating media and translucent materials is typically modeled using the radiative transfer theory. Under assumption of independent between particles, it utilizes several bulk parameters to statistically characterize light-matter interactions at macroscale. To calculate these based on microscale material properties, Lorenz-Mie theory has been considered gold standard. In this paper, we present a generalized framework capable systematically rigorously computing beyond far-field Our technique accounts for wave-optics effects such as diffraction interference well nearby particles. general, can be plugged any renderer supporting scattering, allows arbitrary packing rates particles correlation; demonstrate generality by wide range materials, including anisotropic correlated media.

Mie Theory: A Review
In optical particle characterisation and aerosol science today light scattering simulations are regarded as an indispensable tool to develop new particle characterisation techniques or in solving inverse light scattering problems. Mie scattering and related computational methods have evolved rapidly during the past decade such that scattering computations for spherical scatterers a few order of...
متن کاملMie theory model of the corona.
We performed a calculation of the corona colors that employed Mie theory to obtain the scattered light intensity. The scattered intensity was integrated over the visible spectrum for a number of different cloud droplet size distriubtions. The results were converted to chromaticity coordinates, convolved with the angular size of the sun, and plotted on the 1931 CIE chromaticity diagram. The resu...
متن کاملMie theory, airy theory, and the natural rainbow.
Compared with Mie scattering theory, Airy rainbow theory clearly miscalculates some monochromatic details of scattering by small water drops. Yet when monodisperse Airy theory is measured by perceptual (rather than purely physical) standards such as chromaticity and luminance contrast, it differs very little from Mie theory. Considering only the angular positions of luminance extrema, Airy theo...
متن کاملBIM-Sim: Interactive Simulation of Broadband Imaging Using Mie Theory
Understanding the structure of a scattered electromagnetic (EM) field is critical to improving the imaging process. Mechanisms such as diffraction, scattering, and interference affect an image, limiting the resolution, and potentially introducing artifacts. Simulation and visualization of scattered fields thus plays an important role in imaging science. However, EM fields are high-dimensional, ...
متن کاملShadow modelling based upon Rayleigh scattering and Mie theory
In this paper, we present a method to model shadows in outdoor scenes. Here, we note that the shadow areas correspond to the diffuse skylight which arises from the scattering of the sunlight by particles in the atmosphere. This yields a treatment in which shadows in the image can be viewed as a linear combination of scattered light obeying Rayleigh scattering and Mie theory. This allows for the...
